One of the SAM settings you can make prior to departure is the field elevation at your destination airport. On approach to that airport, SAM will advise audibly "CHECK GEAR" at 1000' AGL (or at the threshold altitude you prefer). 

Now your autopilot can make GPS-based turns in addition to flying straight lines! SAM's roll steering uses your autopilot's heading mode, anticipating all turns by continually accounting for current winds and your ground speed. Your autopilot will fly all waypoint turns -- hands off! 

SAM™ is a Steering Assist Module that couples your existing autopilot with your panel mount GPS receiver to activate roll steering which will automatically steer your aircraft through a GPS flight plans, approaches and more. 

When flying a GPS flight plan, you typically fly in HDG mode and your autopilot flies the course you’ve set with the heading bug in the HSI. At each waypoint, the GPS displays the new track or heading to the next waypoint.
